2020: the future is here, how is your pipeline?

By January 2, 2020 No Comments

Well here we are again in a New Year and new decade and I don’t know about you but 2020 really feels like a futuristic date.

2020 – the kind of date that was quoted in science fiction novels and films of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and even the 80’s in the likes of the Back to The Future trilogy. Out of interest, the future date in that movie was October 21, 2015, over four years ago already!

So, in the absence of flying cars, hoverboards and self-tying trainers (only just) I’m wondering if you had your own time machine what would you go back and do more of at the start of 2019 or even 2009 to ensure this new decade was one to remember?

I firmly believe that most of us would agree that building our new business sales pipeline is something that we could probably have made a better job of. I’m sure that a handful of people might say that your pipeline can be too big and that it might distract you but my response to that would be that having a very large pipeline gives us more choice of the type and size of client we want which surely is our utopia.

If you agree that your pipeline has been lacking in the past, now is the time to set your New Years Resolution to build your largest pipeline ever because that ‘choice of client’ should be what we are all aiming for in reality.

Whether you are filling your pipeline through website enquiries, email marketing, direct mail, social media or indeed proactive outbound telephone calls to unknown prospects or existing customers, discipline and planning is required now for the year ahead, not in September when you are trying to save the year.

Hope is not a good sales strategy. Don’t let 2020 be another average year, make it a fantastic start to the new decade.

In the immortal words of the renowned philosopher Marty McFly “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.” So just to add to that in my own words “there’s no point in just putting your mind to it if you don’t have the resource or discipline to get the job done, if that’s the case, hire someone that could do it for you!”

Being proactive is one trend that never gets old…Happy New Year from us all at VST, let’s make 2020 a year to remember 😊
